Scene object

Each loaded model and each object under it is a row in the scene tree, below the project folders. Click the name to select the object in the viewport. Ctrl click the name adds it to the group selection. With an object selected, Up and Down walk the visible rows.

The 👆 icon locks or unlocks viewport picking. The 👁 icon hides or shows the object. When several objects are selected and this row is one of them, those icons and the matching menu commands apply to every selected object. Drag a row to reparent it: the middle of the target makes it a child, the top or bottom edge places it before or after that sibling. An object cannot be dropped onto itself or onto one of its descendants.

Right-click the row to open the menu. On a touch screen, press and hold the row.

Context menu

  • Rename – Edits the name in place. Enter confirms. Escape cancels. Clicking away also confirms. When several objects are selected, every selected object receives this name.

  • Hide / Show – Hides a visible object, or shows a hidden one. The label matches the current state. The 👁 icon does the same. In a multi-selection, each selected object is toggled.

  • Lock selection / Unlock selection – Stops or restores picking this object by clicking in the 3D view. The object stays selectable from the outliner. The label matches the current state. The 👆 / 🛑 icon does the same. Locking an object also blocks picking of its children in the viewport, because a child is pickable only when every ancestor is pickable. In a multi-selection, each selected object is toggled.

  • Hide others – Hides the other branches of the hierarchy and leaves this object visible. If this object was hidden, it is shown.

  • Show all – Shows every hidden object in the scene.

  • Expand all – Expands this object and every descendant that has children.

  • Collapse all – Collapses this object and its descendants.

  • Add to selection – Adds this object to the group selection.

  • Remove from selection – Removes this object from the group selection.

  • Select children – Adds the direct children of this object to the group selection.

  • Sort children A→Z – Sorts the direct children by name, A to Z. Shown only when this object has more than one child. The same rule applies to the other sort commands.

  • Sort all children A→Z – Sorts every descendant level by name, A to Z.

  • Sort children Z→A – Sorts the direct children by name, Z to A.

  • Sort all children Z→A – Sorts every descendant level by name, Z to A.

  • Add empty Object3D – Creates an empty grouping node as a child of this object. The node has no visible geometry.

  • Add primitive – Submenu: Box, Sphere, Cylinder, Cone, Plane, or Torus. The primitive is created as a child of this object. The + button in the toolbar creates the same shapes under the current selection, or as a new root when nothing is selected.

  • Clone – Duplicates this object and places the copy just after it. The copy is named with a (copy) suffix. A parametric copy gets its own geometry and parameters. Materials are copied too, so a highlight on the original does not stick to the copy.

  • Promote to root – Moves this object to the scene root and keeps its world position. Shown only when the object is nested. The confirmation explains that the ancestor objects, and the other children of those ancestors, are removed.

  • Remove – Deletes the object after a confirmation. When several objects are selected and this row is one of them, one confirmation covers the whole selection. If that selection is the entire current group, the group is removed together.
