Sketches

Sketches row

The Sketches row lists every sketch in the project. The label shows the count, for example Sketches (2).

Right-click the row to open the menu. Click the name to expand or collapse the list. Drop a sketch on this row to move it to the end of the list.

Context menu

  • New sketch from view – Projects the current view onto a new sketch plane aligned with the camera.

  • New sketch on section plane – Creates an empty sketch on the active section plane. Shown only while a section plane exists.

  • New sketch from section lines – Builds a sketch from the lines of the current section. Shown only while a section plane exists.

  • New sketch from section view – Projects the section view onto a new sketch. Shown only while a section plane exists.

  • New sketch on face… – Arms face picking. The next face you click becomes the sketch plane.

  • Import sketch… – Imports a sketch from a JSON file.

  • Show all sketches – Makes every sketch visible. Shown only when at least one sketch exists.

  • Hide all sketches – Hides every sketch. Shown only when at least one sketch exists.

  • Delete all sketches – Deletes every sketch after a confirmation. Shown only when at least one sketch exists.

Sketch

A sketch row is one 2D sketch. The active sketch, the one being edited, is highlighted. A hidden sketch is dimmed. The 👁 icon on the row hides or shows it. Double-click the row to edit the sketch. Click the name to select it.

Drag the row to reorder sketches. Drop a contour on this row to make that contour a root of this sketch. Contours can also be dropped onto a different sketch. Their position on the plane is copied across.

Right-click the row to open the menu.

Context menu

  • Edit – Opens this sketch for editing. Same as a double-click.

  • Rename – Edits the sketch name in place. Enter confirms. Escape cancels.

  • Hide / Show – Hides a visible sketch, or shows a hidden one. The label matches the current state. The 👁 icon on the row does the same.

  • Offset… – Opens the offset dialog for this sketch.

  • Flip horizontal – Mirrors the whole sketch left to right. The sketch stays in place, like the back view of a drawing.

  • Flip vertical – Mirrors the whole sketch top to bottom. The sketch stays in place.

  • Duplicate – Copies this sketch, including its geometry, as a new sketch.

  • Clone plane – Creates a new empty sketch on a copy of this sketch's plane. The drawing is not copied.

  • Insert existing sketch – Submenu of the other sketches. Copies the chosen sketch's geometry onto this one. Shown only when another sketch exists. The insert is rejected if the geometry cannot be solved on this plane.

  • Export sketch… – Downloads this sketch as a JSON file.

  • Export drawing PDF… – Exports a drawing PDF and selects the new file under Files.

  • Delete – Deletes this sketch after a confirmation. If the sketch is being edited, editing ends.

Contour

A contour row is one group or mesh inside a sketch. Nested contours appear as children. A hidden contour, or a contour under a hidden parent, is dimmed. The 👁 icon hides or shows it.

Click the name to select the contour. Ctrl or Cmd click adds or removes contours in the same sketch. Shift click selects a range. Drag a contour onto another contour to reparent or reorder it, or onto a sketch row to make it a root contour. A contour cannot be dropped onto itself or onto one of its children.

Right-click the row to open the menu. If the contour is not already selected, the right-click selects it first. When several contours of this sketch are selected, Hide, Show, Flip, and Delete act on all of them and the label shows the count.

Context menu

  • Hide / Show – Hides or shows the contour. The label matches the clicked contour, and adds a count when several contours are selected. The 👁 icon does the same.

  • Hide others – Hides the other contours of this sketch and leaves the selected ones visible.

  • Flip horizontal – Mirrors the contour left to right in the sketch plane. With several contours selected, each selected contour is mirrored.

  • Flip vertical – Mirrors the contour top to bottom in the sketch plane. With several contours selected, each selected contour is mirrored.

  • Promote to root – Shown only when the contour is nested under another contour. After confirmation, the contour becomes a root of the sketch. Ancestor contours, and the other children of those ancestors, are removed.

  • Delete – Deletes the contour after a confirmation. A contour that has children takes those children with it. With several contours selected, the label is Delete (N) and every selected contour of this sketch is deleted.
