Tools Panel

The Tools panel places measurements, dimensions, and annotations. Open it from the Tools button in the top toolbar, or click the mode name in the status bar.

Tools

Label mode is Flat or 3D (default 3D) and applies to every tool below. Flat keeps the label on the screen. 3D places it in the scene. For Dimension and Annotation, switching mode restarts the tool in the matching variant. Changing it does not restyle labels already placed.

Click a tool, place the points, and the viewer returns to Navigate unless Repeat tool is on. The active button stays highlighted. Cancel appears only while a tool is placing points; Esc does the same. There is no Navigate button. With no tool active, the status bar shows Navigate. While a tool runs it shows Measuring distance, Measuring angle, Measuring radius, Add dimension, or Add annotation.

During Assembly edit the tool buttons are disabled and the status bar shows Assembly Edit.

  • Dist. measure (2 points) – Click two points. The label shows the 3D distance and the axis and plane components (Δx, Δy, Δz, ΔXY, ΔXZ, ΔYZ). To move an endpoint later, select the label, right-click or long-press, choose Redefine point…, click the marker, then click a new point on the model.

  • Angle measure (4 points) – Click four points, two per line. The label shows the 3D angle and the angles projected onto XY, YZ, and XZ. Endpoints can be redefined the same way.

  • Radius measure (3 points) – Click three points on a circle. The label shows the 3D circumradius and the radii projected onto XY, YZ, and XZ. Points can be redefined the same way.

  • Dimension – Places a CAD dimension. Flat uses a screen-aligned label; 3D uses a label oriented in the scene. Endpoints can be redefined the same way.

  • Annotation – Adds a text note with a leader. Flat or 3D follows Label mode. Leader anchors can be redefined the same way.

  • Cancel – Shown only while a tool is active. Leaves the tool and returns to Navigate.

Options

  • Repeat tool – Off by default. After one measurement, dimension, or annotation finishes, the same tool stays active for the next one.

  • Detect circle center – Hidden until it applies. It appears while distance, angle, radius, or Dimension is active, while Redefine point… is waiting for the new point, and while Move to point, Point snap, or Section pick is active. Clicks then snap to the center of a detected circular edge. Hiding the switch turns it off.

  • Show behind model – Off by default. Draws measurements, dimensions, and annotations in front of the model even when they sit behind a surface.

Visibility

  • Show measurements – Shows or hides every distance, angle, and radius measurement, and every CAD dimension (flat and 3D).

  • Show annotations – Shows or hides every annotation (flat and 3D).

Actions

  • Clear all measurements… – After confirmation, removes every distance, angle, and radius measurement and every CAD dimension (flat and 3D).

  • Clear all annotations… – After confirmation, removes every annotation (flat and 3D).

Dimension defaults

Label settings here are used by new dimensions. Apply to all existing inside a subfolder, or Apply to existing on this folder, restyles dimensions already in the scene. Marker settings take effect immediately. Set to default restores the factory label and marker values.

Dimension (Flat) defaults

  • Size – Label text size, 8–24 px. Default 11.

  • Text color – Label text. Default white.

  • Background – Label background.

  • Apply to all existing – Restyles flat dimensions already in the scene.

Dimension (3D) defaults

  • Size – Label scale, 0.01–100. Default 5.

  • Rotation (Face camera), Rotation (XY plane), Rotation (XZ plane), Rotation (YZ plane) – 0°, 90°, 180°, or 270°. Each orientation keeps its own rotation. Default 0°.

  • Orientation – Face camera (default), XY plane, XZ plane, or YZ plane.

  • Text color and Background – Label colors. Text defaults to white.

  • Apply to all existing – Restyles 3D dimensions already in the scene.

Dimension markers defaults

Shared by flat and 3D dimensions. Changes apply to markers already in the scene.

  • Fixed size – Off by default. On: markers keep a constant size on screen (Size – fixed (px)). Off: markers use a size in model units (Size – free (world)).

  • Size – fixed (px) – 1–30, step 0.5. Default 2.

  • Size – free (world) – 0.01–100. Default 2.

  • Color – Marker and dimension-line color.

Annotation defaults

Same layout as dimension defaults. Label settings apply to new annotations until you use Apply to all existing or the folder Apply to existing. Marker settings take effect immediately. Set to default restores the factory values.

Annotation (Flat) defaults

  • Size – 8–24 px. Default 11.

  • Text color – Default white.

  • Background – Label background.

  • Apply to all existing – Restyles flat annotations already in the scene.

Annotation (3D) defaults

  • Size – 0.01–100. Default 5.

  • Rotation (Face camera), Rotation (XY plane), Rotation (XZ plane), Rotation (YZ plane) – 0°, 90°, 180°, or 270°. Default 0°.

  • Orientation – Face camera (default), XY plane, XZ plane, or YZ plane.

  • Text color and Background – Label colors. Text defaults to white.

  • Apply to all existing – Restyles 3D annotations already in the scene.

Annotation markers defaults

  • Fixed size – Same meaning as dimension markers. Off by default.

  • Size – fixed (px) – 1–30, step 0.5. Default 2.

  • Size – free (world) – 0.01–100. Default 2.

  • Color – Marker color for flat and 3D annotations.

Measurement defaults

Label settings apply to new distance, angle, and radius measurements. Apply to all existing in a subfolder, or Apply to existing on this folder, restyles measurements already in the scene, including their marker colors. Marker size takes effect immediately. Set to default restores the factory values.

Dist. measure defaults

  • Size – 8–24 px. Default 11.

  • Text color – Default white.

  • Background – Label background.

  • Apply to all existing – Restyles distance measurements already in the scene.

Angle measure defaults

  • Size, Text color, Background – Same ranges as distance. Text defaults to white.

  • Apply to all existing – Restyles angle measurements already in the scene.

Radius measure defaults

  • Size, Text color, Background – Same ranges as distance. Text defaults to white.

  • Apply to all existing – Restyles radius measurements already in the scene.

Measurement markers defaults

Size is shared by distance, angle, and radius markers. Each type has its own color.

  • Fixed size – Off by default. On uses Size – fixed (px); off uses Size – free (world).
